The Genesis Classic from Mammut is a robust, heavy-duty half-rope for alpine and icefall climbing. The high percentage of sheaf used in this rope gives it very durable and easy handling characteristics.
The weight and strength of half ropes lies between the values for single and twin ropes. Half ropes only offer standard-conforming security when used in pairs, although the climber can choose between the twin rope technique, whereby both ropes run parallel through the pieces of protection, and the half rope technique, whereby there is a left-hand and a right-hand strand running clipped alternately through protection at different heights (e.g. when protection is are wide apart). For the half rope technique a securing method must be used that allows independent looping-in and detachment. When used singly, half ropes are tested with 55 kg fall weight and must resist 5 standard falls. Used singly, they are suitable for additional securing, for example if there are two other climbers on the rope.
